Prompted by questions regarding the difference between flat and conical burrs and which is better, Option-O's Grinding Dynamics Study (GDS) is less about finding an absolute answer and more about understanding the differences—because grinding coffee is not fixed but rather a more fluid interaction between burr geometry, burr gap, speed, and the coffee itself.
Built on this idea, the Lagom GDS brings together the best of two burr geometries in one system, so the differences can be experienced directly. There is no right or wrong: each expression is unique, and each has its place. GDS is simply a way to explore that, following your curiosity and continuing to learn how different grinding dynamics shape the cup.
A departure from their usual design language, the Lagom GDS is unapologetically industrial, with visible and functional analog controls—fully embracing its identity as a lab-grade instrument.

FEATURES
Dual geometry platform contains two distinct grinding modules, in your choice of Conical + Flat or Flat + Flat configuration.
Each module contains geometry-tuned power delivery, with a range of 100-500RPM for Conical and 200-2000RPM for Flat burr.
New 100mm conical Mizen HC100TX burrs with custom integrated PCS take a hybrid-profile approach to conical geometry, using a radiused, progressive feed profile to create a longer, flatter grind path to yield improved grind-to-grind consistency, a wider sweet spot, and a more balanced cup profile with greater control.
Full user control with analog interface, including calibrated RPM and Micron-level grind setting adjustment, dedicated purge control, and ionizer switch.
Together with the 1650W BLDC motor and closed-loop control ensuring consistent RPM, a secondary thrust ball bearing system (for Flat burrs) propvides dedicated support for axial forces generated during grinding and improving overall stability of the grinding assembly under load.
Precision engineered and CNC machined to tolerances of <10 microns (0.01mm) with minimised tolerance stack for maintained alignment by design. Each unit is assembled and inspected individually before leaving the workshop, so the intended precision is retained in practice, not just in design.
Integrated upper burr assembly allows repeatable removal and installation without recalibration.
Modular and flexible mounting platform is designed for utmost adaptability and versatility; accommodates the included portafilter forks and/or grind cup platforms, and can accommodate various aftermarket accessories to integrate into any workflow.

USE & CARE
Regular cleaning will keep your grinder running smoothly and tasting fresh. Burrs are easily accessed, and can be cleaned with a dry brush and/or commercially available grinder cleaning pellets.
